Inspired by the video training workshop, hip hop teacher Timothy Kok together with our team have developed CKC TV. CKC TV can be incorporated in any CKC course, but can also be turned into a stand alone TV/Journalism workshop. CKC TV is a workshop in which particpants learn how television and video reports work. They learn interview techniques, how to make a news item, recording and editing of (CKC) productions/events. The video reports include CKC-related events but also events outside CKC (i.e., annual Zoetermeer events, school plays or band competitions). Participants learn how to obtain newsworthy and up to date material, how to document events truthfully and unbiased, and how to deal with privacy issues. In other words, participants get insight into what makes or breaks a new items. They broadcast their work on the CKC TV YouTube channel.
Timothy Kok tested the CKC TV teaching model on his own students with 4 workshop sessions. The format of this workshop has been adjusted according to the feedback obtained in the test phase. The amount of participants allowed the workshop programme to be flexible. Each lesson could be customised to the progress of the participants. The workshop sessions included, (1) general introduction of CKC TV, (2) film-interview techniques and shooting on location, (3) edting, (4) editing and upload.
CKC TV is an ongoing project in which content is delivered continuously. After having participated in this CKC TV try out, the partcipants now have the necessary journalistic skills to continue their work independently. They will probably also peer teach new CKC TV participants in the near future.
